Description: The most Historic Garden Route Country House and an absolute must for the Connoisseur. Some of the buildings dating from the early 18th century, stemming from the times when it was at the outer limits of the settlements in the 1720's. The old road to George passed by the houses at Hoogekraal. Botha Room: Set in the 1760 house, it is named after the family who founded Hoogekraal, and is furnished with 18th and 19th century Cape stinkwood antiques, a comfortable old double brass bed, lounging chairs and under original yellowwood beams and ceilings, decorated with old watercolours and historic prints. The large bathroom is fitted with a bath and the usual facilities. Outeniqua Room: Also in the 1760 house and named after the dominating and beautiful mountain range nearby, this room is slightly larger, with original yellowwood beams, rare antique cheval, desk and wardrobe, all in rich stinkwood, double bed, Persian carpet and original old oil paintings. The bathroom has a shower, usual facilities and a bidet. Georgian Room: The largest of the double rooms in the 1760 house, is named after the nearby 18th century town of George. It is furnished with an inlaid antique suite of dressing table, desk and wardrobe, with twin beds. The lounge section has a settee, rocker, fridge, and is decorated with fine original paintings & sculpture. It also has a private garden patio away from the other rooms. The double bathroom has a large bath, separate shower room, twin basins and usual facilities. 1820 Suite: The largest of the full suites with Oregon floors and ceilings, comprising double bedroom with twin beds, antique satinwood furniture, fine art work, and leading to a bathroom with bath, twin basins & separate toilet. The large sitting room is furnished with an antique desk and easy chairs, a third bed and fridge, an old armoire, and original art. It leads to a second smaller bathroom with shower and usual facilities. This suite also has a covered verandah. Mentone Suite: A sunny bright suite, with double bed and tasteful furniture, named after the Botha sons, Mentone, and the great-grandmother's birthplace in Menton, France. The master bathroom has a shower, twin basins and a separate toilet. The sitting room is furnished with comfortable chairs, desk, a third bed, and leads to a separate smaller bathroom with shower and usual facilities. It has a private garden patio. Scott Family Suite: A compact suite accommodating four, comprising main bedroom with twin beds, an attic suitable for teenagers, also fitted with twin beds, accessible by an original yellowwood stairway, and two shower rooms, with usual facilities. It has a separate sitting room with easy chairs, and a private garden patio nearby is set aside for this suite. Glentana beach is 3 min. drive from Hoogekraal, and most of the majestic and dramatic drives and scenery of the Garden Route are within a morning's touring, plus...at Botlierskop Game Farm, 20 minutes away.... Lion, Buffalo, Rhino, Giraffe, Kudu, Waterbuck, Eland, Bontebok, Sable Antelope, Bushbuck, Nyala, Blue Wildebeest etc... This means that, together with the elephants at Knysna, and whales off our own coast in season, five of the big six are within easy driving of Hoogekraal Country House. Price Info:
