Description: The Hillandale Homestead dates back to the mid-1800's and offers traditional country comfort and a warm personal welcome from your hosts. The homestead is a fine choice if you want to experience the historic ambience of yellow wood ceilings, polished wooden floors and fireplaces in the living room, dining room, sun porch and main guest room. The homestead has four guest rooms which can accommodate up to 8 guests. There are three bathrooms, not en suite. All meals are fully catered and the cuisine is typically Karoo country style with plenty of fresh farm produce. You can look forward to our homemade bread, farm butter, homemade jams, preserves and pickles, farm raised venison, lamb, and pork, together with fresh home grown vegetables in season and delicious country desserts. You can also take home a taste of the Karoo. We have a wide range of farm produce on sale and you can purchase delicious gifts from our pantry to take home for family and friends. Self-catering farm house - convenient and independent Hillandale has a second farm house which is a popular choice for families or groups who prefer to do their own catering. The house has plenty of living space and four bedrooms which can accommodate up to 15 people, depending on the preferences of your group. Bed linen and towels are provided, and the house is serviced daily. There is a gas fridge, an AGA coal-burning stove in the kitchen, plenty of hot water and outdoor braai (barbecue) facilities. Firewood is available for purchase at the homestead. If you prefer self catering you are free to bring your own provisions and do your own cooking. If you wish, you can supplement your supplies by purchasing our fresh farm produce, have some meals prepared and delivered by us, or eat with us at the farmhouse for some meals. Rustic huts - enjoy the simple life, close to nature We have three hiking huts built in the typical Karoo style with natural stone, without mortar and unplastered, so as to blend in with the surroundings. The huts are in attractive settings at different locations, suitably positioned for hiking or cycling tours with overnights in different spots. You can, of course, stay several nights in the same place if you wish. Each hut has two rooms with bunks (including mattresses) for 8 people in total, plus a shared living/eating area. Facilities are absolutely basic, with an outdoor cold shower, a "long drop" toilet, and cold running water. You need to bring your food, bedding, cooking and eating utensils and plan on cooking outdoors over an open fire or bring a camping stove. We operate a small store for our farm staff where campers can buy a limited range of basic supplies if required. If you wish, you can supplement your supplies by purchasing our delicious fresh farm produce or joining us for a farmhouse meal. Let us know your requirements and we will advise pricing.
