Description: Umzimkulu River Lodge offers bed&breakfast as well as self-catering accommodation at one of the best fly-fishing spots in South Africa. Just 2 hours from Durban and 6 hours from Johannesburg in the foothills of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, lies a wonderful family holiday getaway. Fly fishermen come here for the unrivalled opportunities to catch rainbow trout along a 2.5km stretch of the Umzimkulu or stocked 2ha dam with trophy dams available to our guests nearby. The rivers are open for fishing from the 1st September to 31st May. The dam is open for year round fishing enjoyment. The Lodge welcomes participants of the Drak Challenge Canoe marathon and their families to enjoy the hospitality of the Lodge which is conveniently situated at the finish of the race. Kayakers come from far and wide to experience thrombosis gorge firsthand. The exhilarating Thrombosis gorge mentioned in Celiers Kruger’s book “Run the Rivers of Africa” begins 2km’s from the Lodge for an unequalled kayaking experience. Families love it for the unhurried country feeling and blissful, fun filled days spent exploring this adventure playground. A Charming Animal Farm, jungle gym, pony rides, swings and trampoline keep children enjoying the fresh air and outdoors all day long. Honeymooners enjoy the privacy of a private deck overlooking the river and a luxurious suite complete with canopy bed, log fire and cocktail bar.
